What are the very best trebel hooks to put on a crankbait?
I am losing too many fish on lipless crankbaits. They just come to the top and shake off.I am going to replace hooks and need to know what are the best. Also has anyone ever experimented with adding a trailer hook to crankbaits for short striking fish.
You have two choices, either Gamakatsu as already mentioned OR VMC trebles, both have needle points and both hook up well. Owner also makes some very durable trebles.
Don’t attempt to sharpen your hooks as it often only works once then the hooks have to be replaced. Avoid dragging them over rocks if possible and check your hooks after every 6-7 casts on areas with under water structure.
Spinnerbaits. They’re easy, simply retrieve as fast or slow as you want depending on what depth you want it to be, and it makes a lot of racket and sparkle. One of the easiest and most successful bass catching lures out there.

Bass Pro Spring Classic sale?
Do they tend to have pretty good deals on their baits and lures? I’ve gone to this sale in the past but mainly for the rods and reels. I really need to stock up on several different baits before I start fishing pretty heavily again. I was planning on going to Bass Pro this weekend but the sale doesn’t start until next weekend, not quite sure if it’s worth wating until next weekend or not. I need to purchase various top waters, crankbaits, and plastics.
mysterious top water feeding fish? What could they be?
So today I was at a freshwater pond in delaware, frequently fished for its largemouth and smallmouth, and stumbled upon a secluded lagoon-ish body of water that looked relatively unfished. After a couple of minutes, I noticed at least thirty fish ranging from 12″-24″ long swimming along the surface. Many of the fish were swimming in a manner similar to sharks, with their dorsal fins poking out of the water. They would come up to the surface and all I could really see was the side of a large fish shine at me and a swirl of water popping out of nowhere. It started to rain and they started going crazy, doing the same thing at a fast pace. I could not see what they were due to it being a cloudy day and relatively murky water. They weren’t biting anything I threw out there; crankbaits, different colored spinnerbaits, in line spinners, and rubber worms. Although I know this is a shot in the dark, I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what the fish could be from similar experiences, and why they are not taking my bait. The website for the pond says that it has pickerel, catfish, carp, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and striped bass. Any ideas?
Yep sounds like carp. Those things do like to sunbathe in slow shallow water. Seem to tolerate and like heat more than other fish. I suppose they must spawn in shallow places too, where it’s warm.
If it was a pond, might of just been the best place in it, for all them to spawn at, why there were so many all together.
I’ve seen them shine like that, near the top of water.
Hard to get a carp to bite on anything thats not live and real slow. Suprised you didn’t snag one as many as were there.

VMC also offers a dressed hook, which adds a little more flash to attract fish

I wouldnt suggest adding a single trailer hook as not only will it make it fish unnatural, but its likely to foul hook the fish.
top water fishing for bass?
When fishing for largemouth bass are top water baits nearly as effective as crankbaits or worms

MAYBE a deep diving crank-bait MIGHT catch a Catfish on the game. Use a natural shad pattern. But I’m doubting you catching many catfish in the game.
Oh, and how is the game? I haven’t gotten it yet.

I use to buy quite a bit from BPS and Cabelas but now that I’m on Ebay I get most of my lures and terminal tackle from certain individuals there.
Not only do I usually save a ton on the lure, but I save money not having to drive to the stores.
Plus, it’s a dang TREAT to find lures in your mail box or waiting on your doorstep! (LOL)
I tell everyone I can- If you aren’t buying in bulk on-line your paying 50-100% more for Hard Plastic Lures and 200% more for Soft Plastics.
A good example?
I recently won an auction for 235 4.5″ tubes from an online distributor for (drum roll) $12!!! (plus $10 shipping). That is a savings of over $150!!!!
His products are WELL WORTH the money!
Here’s the guy- http://cgi.ebay.com/235-Man-O-War-Flippin-Tube-Water-GrPum-DOC-WATERS-Bass_W0QQitemZ150415947703QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item23057d37b7
There are quite a few GOOD deals on Ebay if you look.
You should bid on this auction if you get a chance Unmam. You WON’T be disappointed!
