what are some good crankbaits for walleye and bass in the youghagheney river in western,PA?

Big, large lipped crank baits for a lot of wobble, use fat ones that go between 12 and 25 feet (depending on how deep the water is) and use a rather natural color. hope i was of some help =]

      “`good catchin“`

A good crankbait to add to the arsenal?
I’m looking for some crankbaits to mimic alewife and gizzard shad. Anyone have any good crankbaits with the color gizzard shad or alewife? i’ve been looking at the strike king pro-model cranks but any other recommendations would be helpful.

      Heres a short list:

      Rapala Shad Rap
      Berekly Flicker Shad
      RatLtrap bleeding shad color
      Xrap (and Xrap Shad)
      Smithwick Rouge
      Rattlin’ Rapala

Many other lure manufactors make nice shad colored lures.
      Good luck man

are 7:1:1 baitcasting reels good for crankbaits? what lures are they good for?

A reel with that high of a gear ratio is meant for cranks. The higher it is, the quicker it will be for the crankbait to hit max. depth.

High geared reels are basically good for any type of fast moving lure, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, some topwaters, crankbaits of course, etc.

I personally don’t care for a reel with a 7.1:1 gear ratio. They have a tendancy to wear out and break down pretty quick. And I’ll definitely wear one out fast.

What is a good rod length and action for deep diving crankbaits?

    • Anonymous says:

A solid GLASS rod six-foot to seven-foot-six with a medium to medium-heavy action would make a hell of a crankin’ stick.

A long time ago when Fenwick Fenglass Lunkersticks were the sh*t, pros from all over used those as crankbait rods. I’m sure a few of the older guys still have some in their arsenal. I do. A little five-foot-six Lunkerstick 2000.

What are good crankbaits for small, shallow ponds/reservoirs?
OK, so i have a lot of crankbaits. Both deep diving and shallow diving. The thing is, i have never caught anything on them. I dont know why, they just dont seem to work for me. What are some good crank baits i can buy for a shallow pond?

    * I fish for largemouth bass *
I use a lot of other lures like spinnerbaits, topwaters.. i just want suggestions on crankbaits nothing but crankbaits..
STOP TELLING ME ABOUT OTHER LURES! ALL I WANT TO KNOW IS ABOUT CRANK BAITS!

MANN’s baby 1 minus is the best shallow crankbait i have ever used. especially with hot chartreuse color even in water that has over 7 ft visibility.

works best over the top of grass beds or shallow cover. sometimes reeling it so slow it just barely wiggles on the surface. sometimes getting it down to it’s max diving range. sometimes a stop and go presentation. sometimes just kind of popping it like a top water popper. that works best for spooky fish. just barely twitching it so the nose dives under without making a splash and the on the pause it pops up and then back level again. you can get a lot of work this way while barely moving it toward you so it stays in the area working for a very long time.
