Should I take a chance and purchase a Quantum Tour Edition PTi-A spinning reel?
They are on sale at Cabelas for $150, (normally $239).

I’ve never owned a Quantum reel but this one looks like a “boo-yah” buy!

    Opinions?

If so, what size should I get?

    Thanks guys.
Oh, well….(sigh)…..the “Boss” says,” Didn’t you just spend WAY MORE than that on those other reels you just bought a while back?!!!”

    She’s right…..I don’t “really” need it……..but it’s ON SALE!!!!

    (lol)

I’d have to sell more than an Ugly Stik & a Penn SSG to get out of the doghouse if I decide to get it………(lol)

(I wonder???……..if Rover sleeps in the front portion by the door, maybe I could have the other 2 feet in back…..LOL)

Thanks for all the answer’s. It’s tough to pick best answer so I’m gonna go with the Thumbs. Thanks again guys!

YES! These are excellent reels. I bought a Quantum Tour Edition PT open-face reel last year on sale for the same price as yours and it is my favorite reel. I have about 5 or 6 reels in the $100 – $150 price range and this one puts all of them to shame. I would go with the TE30PTiB if I were you. Quantum makes very quality products and I think you will be very satisfied with this reel. Just an fyi, the “PT” stands for performance tuned, so the reels are already lubed with Quantum’s signature “hot sauce”. Supposedly, you will never need to oil or lube this reel, only clean it when it’s dirty. Mine hasn’t required any maintenance yet, and I’ve used it quite a bit. Nice find.

hey man, i really didn’t find any that were much less than what you got listed. i found a couple for 138.00 but that is still too high for a spinner for me. i will leave you a link for those reels and maybe even bid on a couple that are going right now. but man, i have to tell you that this reel is just too much for your son. i am not trying to be mean but that is way to much. i could understand if he was older but, i would recommend a couple to you. abu garcia, cardinal series or the pflugher presidential series. both of these reels are inexpensive when it comes to good reels. they both have a nice retrieve a very smooth cast and a nice drag system. i have had and still have both and they have given me years of fishing pleasure. i have pulled in some nice sized bass with the abu and last year with the pflugher i pulled up a 5 foot black tip shark and catfish weighing 20-30 and 40 lbs plus. if i was in your shoes i wouldn’t spend so much on a reel. you never know a year from now hit joy for fishin may disappear (which i hope that never happens) and now you are left with a 150 dollar reel. trust me when it comes to the two reels that i mentioned above that these reels are great great reels. good luck good fishin be safe and remember to share the experience

I’ve noticed a lot of people buying into Quantum reels. Why? Similarly priced and even LOWER-priced reels from Shimano, Pflueger, Daiwa, etc are a whole lot better. I would much rather trust a $60 Pflueger President than a $100 Quantum spinning reel. Just too many mixed reviews, check all the sites, one guy loves them and one guy hates them.

I looked at Bass Pro Shops online, and found the Quantum Kinetic PTi-B to have 5/5 on all reviews, however it only has 4 reviews. You can also buy this reel at a handful of other places, including Tackle Warehouse, http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Quantum_Kinetic_PTiB_Spinning_Reels/descpage-QKPTB.html

BUT, I could almost guarantee, that the Pflueger Supreme XT spinning reel, which is made of magnesium, will outlast your reel 3-to-1. Here’s the link to the XT at Tackle Warehouse, http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Pflueger_Supreme_Magnesium_Spinning_Reels/descpage-PSMS.html

I’m not trying to beat down on Quantum, but look, you can get $70 reels that will perform toe-to-toe with any $100 Quantum. I believe their main way of selling reels is their look. Let’s face it, Quantum reels are damn sexy. Check out their Quantum Code baitcasting reel, and look how beautiful it is. But it’s a FLUKE! The reel SUCKS! You can spend $20 less and get a just as good or better reel.

Unless you are buying a reel for someone that demands a Quantum or you just seem to like Quantum (I will confess I may be a little biased about Quantum), get the Pflueger Supreme XT. Or any other $75-$100 Shimano, Daiwa, Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s, or Pflueger reel for that matter.

    Quantum xtralight trigger spinning reel?
Yes im using a Shakespeare 4lb test 1 ball bearing reel while i love the reel with my dearest heart and love it dearly but ive been eyeballing this quantum xtralight trigger spinning reel for a couple of days now i love the design the 3 ball bearings but im kind of skeptic about ordering it because ive never herd of it for trout fishing i would love some feed back on it so i can decide if i want to buy it i thank you for your info

You’re going to find that the Quantum is a much smoother reel than the Shakespeare. Ultra light with 4lb test is perfect for trout fishing. I think you’re going to like it, especially if you match it with a decent rod.
